The extremely powerful search function in Windows Server 2003 is valuable to both the system administrator and the regular user. If you are not sure about the name of the object, general attributes can be supplied to locate the network resource. To launch this function, select Start select Search select the search category.
The Search dialog box (Figure 4.20) provides a number of options to fine-tune the action. For example, if you are looking for files or a folder, you can search by name or content to receive a list of results (Figure 4.21). Take the opportunity to use this facility. It is regularly used by both system administrators and users.
The Search Companion is a new brokering feature that analyzes user's queries. It then identifies the task the user is trying to accomplish and restates the query for clarification. It then passes the query to the most appropriate search engines when the information is not readily found on the local system. The new Search Pane uses MSN as the default search engine. The brokers seek other third-party search engines when the Search Companion believes better results can be found elsewhere. The Search Companion is automatically invoked during a search.
