FILE TRANSFER WIZARD

When installing a new system, the transfer of files or system states from one computer to another can be a complex and sometimes haphazard activity. The new Files and Settings Transfer Wizard takes the difficulty out of this task. This feature supports the transfer of files and settings (state) from one computer to another by walking the user through the migration process. The Files and Settings Transfer Wizard has two paths that are selected to either engage state collection or state application. The state collection wizard is used on the old system, which is also known as the source. Source computer operating systems include Windows 9.x, Windows NT 4.0, Windows Me, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003. The wizard state application is run on the new computer, also known as the destination. Only the Windows XP OS supports destination systems. The actual file transfer is accomplished either by connecting the two systems to a network or through the use of a removable storage device like a floppy disk or CD. The File Transfer Wizard is invoked by pressing Start More Programs Accessories System Tools Files and Settings Transfer Wizard.
